A Day in the Life

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Wake up, stumble from bed, drag my body down the hall.
Found dropped lovie on the floor, hand to child, kiss the baby on the head.
Close the door, glance at the clock, it's only 5oclock.
Tip toe down the stairs, pour the coffee and take a drink.

Ahhhhh

Sit down, open e-mail take a glance at Twitter and FB.
Start to write, hear a grumble, hear a meow, everyone is hungry now.
Feed the cat. Send hubs to work, kiss, kiss.
Toast pops, before I take a bite....

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Bounce up the stairs, please don't wake your brother.
To late, he's up and growls.
Get up, change your pull ups, head downstairs.
It's time to eat.
We're out of waffles.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyy!

I'm sorry, I know it's sad,
Your choice is cereal, toast, nothing.
Pour the milk, reheat the coffee (again)
Pick up the paper, read a line

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Clean up spilled milk.
Send the kids on their way.
Clean up dishes, reheat coffee (again)
Sit down to have a bite

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Break up a fight, take away a toy
Turn on TV to a little monkey
10 min quiet

Ahhhhh

Open checkbook to pay a bill.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Clean up cat puke.
Time to go, go get dressed.
No you cannot wear that.
Button pants, snap shirts, pull on socks, wrestle comb through tangles of hair.
Go get your shoes.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Run up to dress myself,
Nothing in my closet fits.
I don't like this, I don't like that, I guess I'll just wear that (again)

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Get your hats, get your coat, it's time to go, were late again!
Reheat coffee (again) pour in travel mug.
Out the door and down the drive,
Buckle, buckle, snap and go!
Back out, avoid the stoop, hit the bush (again) and on our way

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

No we cannot listen to that again
No we cannot go to the drive through
Please stop touching your brother

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Pull into class, out of car.
Coats off, please stop throwing yourself on the floor.
Please just sit.
Please listen (why do I pay for this?)
Time to go.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Back to the car, buckle, buckle, snap, go!
Home for lunch, reheat coffee (again).
No i don't have pizza, just eat your sandwich please.
Done, we have to go!

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

School drop off, lost in a sea of minivans.
Wash your hands, have a good day!
Again I'm on my way
Buckle, snap, go!

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Up to bed, naptime begins
Reheat coffee (again)
Sit down to work.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Up the stairs,
Re-tucked in
Please just lay down quiet
2 hrs fly, so much done, now the coffees gone!

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Back to school, buckle, snap, go!
Pick up papers, wipe the glitter from his face.
In the car (again) buckle, buckle, snap go!
Please stop fighting, I don't care who started it

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Home again!
Go outside, please do something non destructive!
Empty dishwasher.
Start the dinner.
Count the minutes to bedtime.
Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Dinner served
Dinner snubbed
Get these kiddos in the tub
Wrestle wet kids, covered in soap to try to rinse their hair

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Okay! up to bed!
Stories, songs
now rest your head.
Good night, I love you!
One more kiss upon the head.

Down the stairs,
in the tub,
wine in my hand.

Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!
Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!
Mooooommmmmmyyyyyy!

Daddy?

Love how you end the day with wine in your hand! One of my favorite bloggers(is there any mommy out there?) once did a thing where she had one of those clickers on her all day and she clicked it every time one of her kids said mommy. It was hilarious.

Oh it all sounded so familiar! It's much less poetic when you're living it - but they say ONE DAY we'll look back on all of this and long for its simplicity.

It doesn't look that simple on paper, does it?
