Write Pink! Prevention: We're Building an Army, Justine's Story

We're focusing on breast cancer support for Write Pink! this week.

Each day, a guest writer will be posting about ways we can help support the people that are fighting breast cancer and the organizations that are trying to beat it.

On Thursday, you are welcome and encouraged to link up your Bigger Picture Moment about breast cancer support. {Blog or Facebook notes both work!}. By linking up, you will automatically be entered to win a gift certificate to {So} Sartina

By commenting on any one of the support posts, you will automatically be entered into a drawing to win an apron (the better for making meals or bakes sales with!) from It's All in the Bag.

Today's post is about supporting breast cancer research from Justine:

Write pink

When I think army, I think many. A large group of people fighting for the same cause,
wanting the same outcome – to win. Together, they are strong. They are a force to be
reckoned with.

With an army, a lone voice in meditation becomes a chanting chorus. A simple action
becomes a tidal wave of movement.

Today, this movement is to eradicate breast cancer. And this army?

It’s the Army of Women.

Dr. Susan Love founded Army of Women because she realized that one of the biggest
hurdles of breast cancer research was finding the women needed to participate in studies
that would help further the science of cancer research.

Through the Army of Women website, you are encouraged to sign up on the website with
your contact information. You will then receive emails regarding current research that
requires participants, and if you’re interested, you can sign up for the study. If you’re
qualified, you will be provided further instructions on how you can be involved in the
process.

It’s entirely voluntary. Signing up does not obligate you to anything. It just opens up
opportunities for you to support the research.

The goal of the Army of Women is to recruit one million women. I am number 341,245.

As you can see, they are far from that goal. They need people of all ethnicities, age and
health condition. Cancer-free or survivors. People like me. People like you. Will you join
me? More importantly, will you join us? Remember, together, we are strong. As an army,
we can fight this. And even beat it.

But first, we need to be an army. One million strong.

What will your number be?

Don't forget, if you join the Army before midnight on October 27th and forward your confirmation to me you could win a special edition LBB tee!

Justine is a mom and memory keeper who chronicles the life of her multi-cultural family on her blog, Here Where I Have Landed.

Have you joined the Army yet? What's keeping you from doing it? If you have joined have you told your friends?

Thanks for the reminder, Justine! I remember clicking on the link last week, reading it, but for some reason thought, ok, I'll sign up later...I will do that now.

Yay, Army of Women! I've been promoting AOW on some guest posts I wrote today. I joined two years ago when it first started...I'm not sure what number I was, but the numbers of women have really grown!

I love the idea of an army of pink ... such a juxtaposition of seemingly opposite ideas. That's jut what we need to fight one of the toughest enemies we face.
