Fab Find Friday: Cards Direct {GIVEAWAY- CLOSED}

I send out a lot of Christmas and Holiday Cards . I think the first year we were married I sent out close to 200! This was a shock to my husband (and his wallet!).

My mother is to blame for part of this. Her and my grandmother worked together at a Hallmark store for most of my childhood. In fact every fall my father would pick up a big box from the store with printing/imprinting press and set up shop in our living room. He would do all the custom imprinting for peoples holiday cards. This was before the internet was big and many people didn’t have nice home printers. So he would imprint their family's or business name on the cards. I remember hearing him work late into the night printing cards for other people. Not for us, my mom was old fashioned and she had to sign and addressed all her cards by hand.

Well now it’s 2010, and I can get anything I need on the internet. I don’t have to worry about dragging two kids, a pregnant belly and an unwilling husband to the store. I don’t have to try to contain little hands “no touching it’s fragile!” or pick my husbands male brain “no really which verse do you like better? which picture? Pick one PLEASE!”.

No thanks to companies like Cards Direct I sit back with a glass of Trader Joe's Candy Cane Tea (Christmas cookies in a cup, go get some!) and I peruse all the Christmas Cards and Holiday Cards they have to offer from the comfort of my favorite chair.

I love that I can be very specific in my search with all the different categories they have in the sidebar. I can choose Landscapes, Christmas Scenes, Religious. This is important to me because I send out 3 different sets of Holiday cards. Come on you knew I was a crazy Type A!

We get one set of cards for our friends and family that don’t celebrate Christmas. It’s usually a winter scene, I love this one:

I also keep extras of this card on hand so we have extras to send to people who send us cards but weren’t on our original list, as well my husbands co-workers.

I get one really fancy, foil set, that we send to Immediate/Close Family. This one tends to be more traditional and has a Bible verse or similar message on it. I really like this one:

The third one, is the one that I spend the most time on. It is the coveted Photo Card. I have already had several photo shoots with my kids trying to get the perfect shot. I will torture them with photo shoots and outfit prop changes up until the first week of December, when my husband intercedes and says PICK ONE. Cards Direct has some really nice, and unique Photo Cards, like this one:

Maybe I can include a belly shot in the middle, a kid on each side? Maybe a family photo would be more appropriate?

Or this one and let the photos (that I don’t have yet) make the statement:

Oh the possibilities! If you don't hear from me for the next few weeks it's because instead of writing I am editing photos and agonizing over which cards to choose.

Make sure when you sit down to browse you have a big cup of tea, especially if (like me!) you are expecting because they have some adorable Baby Announcements. I normally love a photo card, but this one is too cute:

I might have to reconsider my love of photos. .

So what kind of holiday cards do you send?

Cards Direct has been kind enough to give me a credit for 25 cards up to a $50 value for one of my readers!

To enter just leave a comment telling me what kind of holiday cards you typically send? Are you crazy like me, with different kinds for different people? Or does everyone get a basic photo card?

Bonus entry:

the last 3 years we sent photo cards that i made on snapfish with pictures we took throughout the year. i'm not sure if we will do that again because of budget issues this year. i hope we can, but otherwise i'll pick up a few boxes of nice ones and include some photos of the kids i print.

I always send a card with a Reason for the Season type of message and a picture of the kids. And I would be so happy to try this one out! I, too, agonize over the Christmas picture!

I LOVE looking for cards - birthday, holiday, thank you. I have been known to spend an hour in a cute card shop looking at everything and leave with just one or two, but they'd be perfect! For holiday cards I like to go with retro designs or NYC centric, but retro is my favorite. Something that looks like my grandparents would have sent in the 50's!

Great giveaway!

Very nice giveaway! In the past I made each and every card...sigh! Now, I usually purchase one that I can make on-line. Last year I didn't send any because when I got the cards (late in the season)it looked like my husband and I had jaundice.... This year I'm hoping for better results. amerskine at hotmail dot com

I love sending photo cards, I think they're a bit more personal and I don't have to worry about signing them.
