Simply Accepting Reality

P1010407

Sometimes we need to protect ourselves (emotionality, spiritually, mentally) and in doing so break the rules of what people and society expect.

Sometimes we need to accept that fairy tales are stories, that literature is not reality. We need to accept the reality we have and stop trying to create the reality we wish to have.

Sometimes that means we need to build walls, dig moats, or  protect ourselves from the cold.

Sometimes that means we need to stop focusing on unmet expectations, unfulfilled dreams and hopes. Focus on the people in our reality and not the stories in our heads.

Characters are in stories. People are in reality.

People are real.

They have flaws and faults.

They hurt without realizing it through their actions or in-actions.They underestimate the power of words spoken without thinking, spoken in haste or not spoken at all.

They can fail to see that an absence of oneself speaks more than any gift ever given. That a physical presence is needed in reality.

Sometimes you need to accept that great relationships take work, and perseverance.

Sometimes you need to know that all the work and perseverance in the world won’t change a person or a relationship and you need to be able to accept and move on.

You need to be able to hold your head high, love them anyways. Love them for the flawed soul they are. Accept that they will never be the mother, father, sister, brother, grandma, friend, person you have created in your story. The story that lives in your head where the characters are the same but different.

Accept that sometimes you need to break the rules of what’s expected of you to protect yourself. Because the only thing sadder than trying to change that flawed and broken soul, is letting it break you too.

Some wise thoughts...I really need to take them to heart, especially since I'm still learning to love my in-laws -- after over eight years of marriage. I'm sure they sometimes have trouble loving me, too!

This is so true. I loved this quote when I read it but couldn't put it into words. Thanks for doing that for me!

Stopping by from Mama Kats.

I love the post but now I'm depressed. It is all so true but reality is hard sometimes. I am in love with the characters I've developed in my story but when you set the expectations for those characters to perform in real life it creates way too much disappointment.

Thanks for such a meaningful post!

Find forgiveness and acceptance of others yes, but sometimes I think, more importantly...ourselves.

You are one wise lady, you know? It makes life so much simpler when we allow other people to only be themselves, and not who we WANT them to be. Gorgeous words, my friend.
