Accidental Co-sleeper

She makes little cluck and snorts. She squirms and bucks her legs trying to make her body move where she wants it to go.

I hear the familiar sounds and know the cues. I wrap my arm around her and cuddle her closer.

She squirms in tight, sighs and settles into a restful sleep.

With that she has squirmed deeper into my heart.

We are accidental co-sleepers.

We didn’t intend to become co-sleepers. My husband says it doesn’t come naturally to him. It comes naturally to this little baby.

I was doing it almost nightly for at least half the night, only I was doing it in a chaise lounge in a  semi upright position. On a particular tired evening I brought her to bed and fell asleep with her in my arms. We slept 4 hours.

Four hours is a lot of sleep for two sleep deprived parents. It was than that my husband suggested we try this co-sleeping thing.

I don’t know how long this will last. It’s kind of amazing how much room a little bundle can take up. That arm pictured above is a big part of it, always fully extended out, floating an inch above the bed.

Co-sleeping is what works for us right now. My husband will eventually want his wife, and pillows back. I will eventually want my space.

For now though, this works.

We cuddle into together and we sleep and restore.

Oh, she is just darling! So, so sweet.

We've co-slept here and there with our previous babies, but our girlie is like yours: she just loves being in bed with us. We like our space too, but I'm not missing it at the moment -- all those "clucks and snorts" are music to my ears :)

I think that co-sleeping seems so natural. Of course I don't know anything, but it just seems natural, and when people on Twitter complain about how they're staying awake all night because their babies will only sleep on them I just wonder why they don't just try that in BED, where both of them can sleep. But like I said, I don't know anything! But it's nice to know that what seemed to make sense to me is actually working for you. :)

I am glad you found something that works for you. We are also accidental cosleepers. I love it. Some parts are hard, but it is what works for us now. So snuggly.

Wow - she is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

My cousin was an accidental co-sleeper... And her daughter is 3 and now that my cousin is pregnant with no 2 she's desperate to get her daughter sleeping in her own bed... Every family is different - and if it works for you, and allows you to get some much-needed sleep, go for it! :)

And, I can't get over how beautiful she is. I'm dying of baby envy over here.

Us too! I love it. When we decided we needed a bit more space, we sidecarred the crib. Best thing we've done for getting sleep. :)

She is just precious.

I am so jealous! I have never been able to co-sleep, I am always terrified of rolling over on them or dropping them or something. I hope I get the courage to try it with the next one - 4 hours of sleep in a row sounds heavenly!

Oh, that little face!

I was an accidental co-sleeper, too. I kept falling asleep nursing my babies. And when I'd wak,e with them there, it was just easier to roll them down to the bed than to try to move them- that just woke them up.

I was an accidental co-sleeper with my second, but my husband never really felt comfortable with it. I think you have to do what you have to do to get sleep in those first few months.

She is adorable!!

Four hours IS a long time. And it is ok to accidentally co-sleep. That is what happened to us with Dominic.

Oh, and yes... she is so lovely and precious how could you not love her little noises. :)

We were accidental co-sleepers too, with our youngest. All the rest of the kids slept in bassinet in our room, then a crib in their rooms. Our youngest slept with us until he was a year old. I loved it and he's 9 now and truthfully I still kind of miss those days! Nursing and co-sleeping go hand in hand, and it sure helped us get sleep. Do what you need to do for you and your baby. :)

whatever works is best!! that's my parenting style these days :) i didn't co-sleep at all with emma, because she hated it. until about 6 months ago - now, she comes into our room around 4am almost every night. once lucy starts sttn on a regular basis, we may work on kicking her out, but for now, it's what works for us. so sweet and snuggly.

I never thought I would co-sleep, but now I cherish those months of warm bodies next to me. Around 6 months my babies started sleeping in their own bed more, but those first months together were so precious.

there is nothing wrong with co-sleeping. we have co-slept with all three of our kids and i do not regret it for a second. i came across this article a month or two ago and thought I'd share because I just love it: http://moms.today.com/_news/2011/03/07/6212018-mayim-bialik-why-we-let-our-children-sleep-in-our-bed
Enjoy the cuddles - she deserves it and so do you. :) (btw, she is adorable, i finally got to see her the other night when G had her out on the front step!!)
