Big Feet {Simple Moments, Bigger Picture}

It's a school ritual.

New shoes.

I think I was more excited than he was. Shoes! I would get to hangout in the shoe aisle and glance (just glance) at the clearance shoes. Oh how I love shoes. Oh how he hate shoes (I wonder if he is really our child as mu husband and I both have an fondness for shoes!)

"Mommy why are there so many more girls shoes?"

Hahahaha, because we love them honey!

We measure his feet on the little mat and I gasp! 13! Thirteen! 1-3 T-H-I-R-T-E-E-N?!?!?! How can that be!? Thirteen is the largest size in the little feet section. How can my first baby wear a size 13 already! More importantly how has he been wearing size 9 Keens all summer?

(I'll spare you the drama in the details of actually finding said shoes)

He stands on our porch for the traditional first day picture. He is so excited. I am so proud. First grade. I was excited for him. The kids loves school I love the order an calmness that comes from school it's a win win. I was worried there was something wrong with me that I wasn't near tears, not sad at all with this milestone. I was puffed up and proud of my big boy so exited to learn.

Than I saw the shoes and I got a little choked up.

These are no longer my babies feet.

These are the feet of a boy

It only lasted a second (we were late of course!) and I thought as I drove (as I often do) oh where did the time go! Where are those pudgy baby feet. The truth is I wasn't sad. He is a really awesome boy. I love the conversations we have and the observations he makes. I love the person he is becoming. I won't mourn those adorable baby feet, because there still there, just in bigger shoes.

My Twin B (age 10) now wears a size 4. Big kid feet.

But that's nothing. He has friends - twins, actually, the same age as him - who wear size 10.

Size. 10.

The feet of men. On these boys.

I wonder if their mom takes back-to-school shoe pics?

So sweet! My oldest couldn't wait to wear size thirteen, and I wanted her to stay in little girl sizes! But alas, her feet did grow, and she is wearing 13 just like she wanted to. :)

Oh, I am adoring the boy my 5-year-old's becoming as well, but you're right -- he's hovering at 12.5 right now and I'm getting all. choked. up.

I say we stop shoe shopping. That'll halt this whole growing up thing, yes? ;)

They grow so fast!! I love the fact that your camera captured his feet to show us. I just took pictures of my new grand-daughters feet. They are so tiny and new, and nothing like the big girls who live in my own house! Time goes by and it is the moments like this that remind us how precious it is.

Those thin little ankles coming up out of the big mouths of those shoes are so precious! There is something bittersweet about the growing. Happily the saying good bye to the baby/little boy is well balanced by the excitement of seeing the person he is becoming. It is so rewarding to see that future young man!

Beautiful as always Melissa. I love how you cherish the moment right now instead if mourning time passed. I need to keep this in mind when my son starts preschool next week.

What a sweet post, although I think that I will mourn the pudgy little baby feet!

Oh, so sweet! And you say that the interesting people they become can take the sting out of the disappearing babyhood act? YOU GIVE ME HOPE! :)
