BlueSleep

It’s so early, the sun hasn’t even woken up. I’m exhausted. My body groans at the thought of moving. As I debate if it’s a real wake up or another sleep whimper I hear it:

“Mama, Mama, Mama”

It can’t be ignored, my mama heart can’t ignore the plea.

I shuffle up the stairs. Vision still blurry from sleep and the tears of fall allergies.

Her room is dark, the way she likes it. As my eyes adjust to the darkness I see her getting up from her corner of the crib, on tippy toes reaching up for me.

I grab her and her blanket, the long lost paci and head for the chair. She immediately settles herself into the crook of my shoulder, forgoing even her usual paci flipping to immediately sink in. I wrap her in the soft minky blanket she loves and I settle into the crook of the chair and in the dark we sit.

I rub her back and feel her breath. She reaches up to my neckline, feeling for her necklace and settles on the neckline of my shirt. Rubbing it in her fingers until she drifts off.

I soak it all in, this moment in the dark. I soak up all that she is, the weight of her on me, the wisp of her hair, her rhythmic breathing. I focus on it, absorb it until I can’t feel my tired, my allergies, my own needs

Until its just me and her, one being in the dark of morning. Breathing, loving, being.

I always enjoy those middle of the night moments, especially now that they don't happen very often.

Here is my moment this week: http://diaperscouponsandbills.blogspot.com/2012/08/my-only-sunshine.html

The weight of a sleepy baby (or not-so-baby-anymore) is, hands down, my favorite weight :)

Those moments when we just breathe in all we have ... yes. Lovely.

I love the sweetness of this... even though I moan and groan when the kids wake up, there is still such closeness and joy to those early morning/late night snuggles :)

Oh my heart. I was thinking today about how, as a mom, I have to learn to be selfLESS. Because, as much as my little ones are growing and learning to be independent, they still very much need momma and that is a very good thing. I love this.

oh precious little ones! this takes me back - fortunately - although they are too big for me to pick them up - I still roll over - often- to find a little big guy has snuck into mommy's bed and they reach out to snuggle. ;)
