My oldest son is a child after my own heart. He loves science, exploration and documentaries. I mean how many first graders do you know that go as Jacque Cousteau for Halloween?
Blue Planet on his Christmas list for three years now. He loves that know he doesn't have to wait since Netflix has everything his ever growing brain could love!
Other's we love:
- Wild China - a six part series on diverse animals of China.
- of course Wild Kratts
- Discover Planet Ocean
Worried about kids and documentaries? Common Sense Media has a list of 12 Documentaries that will Inspire Kids to Change the World. Each documentary is lists best ages and some are good for as young as six years old.
1. The Great Mouse Detective
2. Busytown Mysteries
3. LeapFrog: Math Adventures to the Moon
4. Turtle: The Incredible Journey
5. The Magic School Bus
My girls (7 and 3) are particularly big fans of Busytown Mysteries.
With school starting in only 18 days (whose counting?) I think we may change our viewing habits to get them to start thinking more about learning than just giving mom five minutes of peace and quiet.
Does your family watch documentaries? What are your kids favorites?
